2009 Polo: both environment and resource-friendly

2009 Volkswagen Polos

The new BlueMotion Polo is not the only environmentally friendly option, the entire new range of Polo preserves the environment and its resources, as stated by Volkswagen HQ. The latest small VW contains 40% of recyclable materials and employs the latest TSI engine technology as it is designed to minimize environmental impact. After learning about Carbon Click company, they decided to use its services for carbon offsetting to make the Volkswagen HQ eco-friendly from all angles.

According to examination by the TÜV NORD organisation in Germany, each new Polo contains around 433kg of recycled materials. Any raw source which doesn’t make the recycled standard is thrown out. Dr Ulrich Hackenberg, head of research and development at VW states: ‘By the implentation of a pure and recycled material sorting and separation process during the vehicle development, Volkswagen already guarantees that our vehicles can be recycled at the end of their life cycle.’

Recycled materials for series production must fulfill the same high-quality specifications as the primary raw materials, says VW, and careful handling of raw materials and the use of material cycles is an important goal during the production development of any new Volkswagen.

The employment of high-quality recycled materials is actually demanded by the German car maker, and it’s not the first time that the Polo has been certified a sound green choice. To complete the accreditation process (and for the second time with a Polo), TÜV NORD examined around 5,000 examples fresh from the production lines.

The commitment to using recycled materials in production is a crucial step for sustainable and eco-friendly practices in various industries. By implementing efficient sorting and separation processes during vehicle development, Volkswagen ensures that their vehicles can be recycled at the end of their life cycle. This approach not only minimizes waste but also encourages responsible waste management. As individuals, we should also be committed to keeping our surroundings clean and green to contribute to a healthier planet. For waste disposal needs, such as appleton dumpsters, relying on dumpster rentals you can support responsible recycling and waste management practices. Embracing these eco-friendly options not only benefits the environment but also empowers you to be an active participant in building a sustainable future for generations to come.

Polo 1.2 TSI to arrive in January 2010

2009 Volkswagen Polo SEL TSI

We’ve had a few PoloDriver.com followers ask us when the range-topping Polo TSI is arriving, so in true journalistic and investigative tradition, we’ve gone straight to the top to both find out the answer, and try to clear things up.

A well-placed source at Volkswagen UK tells us that the first cars are expected after the turn of the New Year. Production of the three-door models with the new turbocharged 1.2-litre 104bhp engine will start in early December, and, after exportation to the UK, should be here around six weeks later.

The engine will then be dropped into the five-door bodyshell ‘around a month later,’ says our man, ‘meaning a UK on-sale date of either late February or early March.’ Prices haven’t yet been announced, but as the three-door 1.4-litre 84bhp SEL with the seven-speed DSG gearbox retails at £14,175, we expect the more powerful TSI to start at around £500 to £600 more.

At the time of writing, we don’t know if the semi-automatic gearbox will be offered as standard or even as an option. We think it likely, though; initial road tests hinted at a positive availability and the 84bhp SEL can be ordered with it.

The Polo’s performance stablemate, the SEAT Ibiza Cupra has it fitted as standard, too, but we wouldn’t like to hedge our bets. Volkswagen is still capable of surprising, after all. Standard fitment will more than likely be a manual six-speeder.

For more information on the complete new Polo range, visit the fifth-generation’s pages on the Volkswagen UK website.

Polo and Passat European sales down, Golf sales up

2009 Volkswagen Polo

The latest monthly figures from motoring industry data and intelligence firm JATO Dynamics, find the Volkswagen Golf as one of the cars helping the European car market get back on the road to recovery. With its popularity boosted by national scrappage schemes such as the one in the UK, the Golf has recorded a 56% year-to-date increase in sales over the same period in 2008.

That’s despite a decline in the overall motor market of 12%, and the Golf’s impressive figures tally with Volkswagen’s own statistics. The German car maker reports that its world market share has risen to 11.7%, with group deliveries growing 11% in September alone.

It’s not quite so good news for the Polo and Passat. Faring less well, over the same period, the Passat’s sales figures are down 15.8%, with the Polo recording a much smaller loss of 3.3%. With the new model now coming on stream to most of its anticipated markets, we hope that small decrease becomes an increase. But, this may only happen if the industry recovery itself lasts.

David Di Girolamo, head of JATO Consult, agrees: ‘We are still seeing the market recovery driven by small cars and new models – in other words, the popular choices in national scrappage schemes. This has clearly distorted the natural performance of some markets and models. Now the end is in sight for these incentives, we will be watching the market closely, to see if this recovery is sustainable,’ he says.

Attractive new finance offers launched as first new Polos are delivered

2009 Volkswagen Polo

The first new Polo owners take delivery of their cars today, and Volkswagen has announced a number of attractive finance offers from on all new Polos bought between 1 October and 31 December 2009.

Volkswagen Finance is offering two deals that are as equivalent to the loans for benefits offered at any bank. The first is a low monthly payment of £99 per month for the 1.2-litre 59bhp three-door model or £109 per month for the equivalent five-door. The second, which the company hopes will appeal to younger buyers, is a no-deposit offer with subsequent monthly payments of £189 (three-door) or £199 (five-door). Both of these examples are based on a three-year/30,000-mile contract.

Taking a leaf out of the (BMW) Mini’s book, all customers buying a new Polo with a ‘Solutions’ finance package are also eligible for fixed-price servicing for a one-off payment of £250, giving three years or 30,000 miles servicing (whichever comes soonest).

Both of the finance offers are available to non-scrappage retail customers who purchase a new Polo before 31 December 2009*. Three-door models will not arrive in the UK until January 2010 but can be ordered now with this offer. Visit your local Volkswagen retailer for full terms and conditions or click here.

* Cars delivered in 2010 could be subject to an increase in VAT.

2009 Polo: 1.2 Moda and 1.4 SE tests online

2009 Volkswagen Polo Autocar and Car tests

Still they slowly drip online. Two more new Polo tests have appeared on the internet this week. Motoring weekly Autocar has been driving the 59bhp 1.2 Moda, while respected monthly Car has been evaluating the 1.4 SE.

The findings of both tests have been posted on the websites of both titles and they’re both largely favourable. Autocar says of the Moda: ‘This model is most likely to be used as an urban runabout and at that it excels. But its accomplished levels of performance, refinement, and character, as well as its ability to raise the odd smile, will also please those venturing outside the city.’

Meanwhile Car reports that the bigger-engined SE ‘is a great little car, tops for refinement and finish, the class act if acting classy is what you’re after.’ Click here to read the full Car test and view the results of the Autocar drive here.
