Polo GTI tested against key rivals in the latest issue of evo magazine
The new issue of evo magazine sees the new Citroën DS3 Racing square up to its rivals, one of them being the new Polo GTI. Over roads in South Wales, ex-Autocar hack Chris Harris and the team tests the hot Polo (for the first time in right-hand drive on UK roads) against the 204bhp DS3-R, the 208bhp Mini Cooper S, the 198bhp Renaultsport Clio and the 189bhp Vauxhall Corsa VXR. Surprisingly, the 1390cc TSI-engined Polo scampers to 62mph faster than its four rivals and sits towards the lower end of the price range, too, at £19,410 for the five-door tested here. The main criticisms? As with other recent tests (revised online Autocar first drive here), the DSG-only option comes in for some flak, as does the GTI’s more refined nature. Which car is victorious? Watch the video (unfortunately we couldn’t embed it), and read the full group test in issue 154 of evo, out tomorrow, 2 February.
For me, there is no competition, the DS3-R is the better looking car! The Polo looks the same, even the Corsa looks better than the Polo, and that is so out-of-date-looking!
Wouldn’t it be boring if we all liked the same thing!
Polo looks by far the classiest and at the end of the day the Corsa is a total chav mobile that has ridiculous torque steer and the DS3 is a Citroen… Need I say more?
I agree James, the Polo is a sophisticated hot hatch. These road testers keep going on about £19K for a Polo, but it is not a normal Polo, far from it. The build quality is top notch, try closing the door on a Corsa and I bet it will sound ‘tinny’, not the quality ‘thunk’ of the Polo 🙂
Yes Paul, and if you close the door on the DS3 it will probably just fall off lol. Yes at first to many people the price tag on the GTI may seem high but once you research into what you get for your money it becomes obvious why it is more than the others… Also because there more expensive you wont see as many of them around. XD Can’t wait!!
